“What did you do this weekend?” Relationships between weekend activities, recovery experiences, and changes in work‐related well‐being

Recovery refers to the process of replenishing resources that occurs when employees distance themselves from their work, leading improvements in work-related well-being indicators (WRWB), such as burnout and vigor. Research has shown weekend activities are related changes WRWB recovery experiences could mediate these relationships. This study aimed examine indirect relationships on vigor, through experiences. It extends past research by considering a greater number controlling for job demands. Two hundred forty-nine various occupations completed two online surveys before after weekend, assessing WRWB, experiences, Structural equation modeling revealed demands, vigor were positively predicted latent variable—the experience—subjacent perceptions detachment, relaxation, mastery, control, relatedness. These results confirm importance improving WRWB. They contribute expanding current knowledge highlighting relatedness future studies.
